UN peacekeeping mission The reasons for the withdrawal of Beninese troops from Mali

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Aurélien Agbénonci, gave the reasons and the date of the withdrawal of the Beninese troops engaged in the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Mali (Minusma) during his appearance on the program ''Government in action'' on June 28, 2022.
140 men from a police base in Kidal will be withdrawn by November 2022 and 250 military members of an infantry regiment in Sénou (outskirts of Bamako) will also be withdrawn from Mali, explained Aurélien Agbénonci on the program '' The government in action '' on June 28, 2022.
Benin is withdrawing its troops engaged in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Mali (Minusma) with a view to securing its borders against the terrorist threat.
Intervening in a context of withdrawal of the French army (Barkhane force) from Mali, the repatriation of Beninese troops was considered as a political consequence of the disgrace between Paris and Bamako.
“Benin’s decision to repatriate the police unit and the mechanized company that are in Mali has nothing to do with the Barkhane issue. (…) Our troops are under UN command. This has nothing to do with the difficulties between Mali and France”, nuanced Aurélien Agbénonci.
